He was a farmer at Amenia NY in 1774 and was administrator of his father's estate; served as a 2nd Lt. in Capt. John VanDusen's Co., Dutchess Co. militia in 1775, and 1st Lt. in Capt. Valentine Wheeler's Co. in 1778; in 1786 Luke Woolcot applied for a patent on lands he had settled in the Oblong; this area became part of Dover Twp. in 1807*; he was at Pawling in 1790, with one slave, and at Montgomery Co. NY in 1800 with one young man and a female child living with him. In 1810 he was at Cazenovia NY with one slave, and he was there in 1812. Luke's will dated 1812 mentions his wife Jerusha, children Thomas, Wheeler, and Luke, Thankful Page, Jerusha Wells, and nephew Luke Wolcott Fox, with son Thomas as witness. - Wolcott Family Society

The 1790 Census of Pawling, Dutchess, NY gives him 3 m 16+ [Luke, Thomas, ?], 2 m < 16 [Wheeler + Luke Jr], 4 f [Jerusha (Bailey), Thankful, Jerusha and ?], and 1 slave. It seems logical to assume those unaccounted for were children who predeceased the making of Luke's 1812 will. The 1800 images are badly damaged, but there are entries for 2 Thomas Wolcott's, Wheeler Wolcott and Luke Wolcott in Northampton, Montgomery, NY. - Census 1790 Pawling NY and 1800 Northampton NY
Some accounts give Mary Wheeler as first of three wives, giving the children to her. Other sources give the children to Lydia Conant. Though there is a son, Wheeler, this could possibly be after Valentine Wheeler, who also lived near the Wolcott's. Considering the names of grandchildren Lydia and Martillas Conant, it is likely at minimum that Luke is son of Lydia Conant.

General Notes (Wife)
This Jerusha Bailey's family is well documented. Her birth record is clear. By the POB of her siblings we can determine her family moved to Sharon between 1765-67, making it very likely that this is Luke's wife. Lydia Conant died when the children were all young; therefore it seems likely they would regard Joseph Bailey as grandfather, especially given the geographic proximity. Luke Jr names one son Joseph Bailey, making it very likely that this Jerusha Bailey is the correct one.

I do see however, births in Sharon for Samuel and William Eliot, sons of Samuel and Margaret, b 1780 and 1782 respectively. I also see what appears by dates given to be a second marriage for John Aaron Eliot: "John A, age 60, res Sharon, m Hannah C JONES, age 39, b Salisbury, res South Canaan, Nov 8, 1848, by Rev Herbert Goodwin & Rev Edwin L Jones." - Sharon VR 122
